How serious are you about your antiques? Ecseri market starts at 7am every day. People say you can get the best deals during the week, but there is more choice at weekends. There is a bewildering chaos of junk and real discoveries. There's the teddy bear expert, selling antique teddy bears, and there are plenty of people selling off their old junk. Be ready to haggle! You can get there by taxi for about 2500 Forint from the city centre, travelling along the riverbank towards the southern edge of the city, Pest-side.
Nagy Csarnok ('Big Market') is at Fővám Tér - the small square at the Pest-side of Szabadság bridge - you can get there in 10 minutes from the centre by Tram 2 along the Pest-side of the river. The market offers lots of food souvenirs, but it is a genuine market with a wide range of fresh produce, dry sausages, homemade honey, cheese etc, all in a very beautiful building.
